The Great Volga Way is an interregional tour taking place in three regions of the Volga region – Tatarstan, Chuvashia and Mari El. For tourists, this is a great opportunity to get acquainted with the sights, ethnic flavor and cuisines of the three national republics in one trip. The nearest tour dates are August 30 – September 2, September 13-16 and September 27-30.
The program of the Great Volga Way includes visits to iconic historical and cultural heritage sites, such as the UNESCO World Heritage Site - the Kazan Kremlin, the youngest Kremlin in Russia – Tsarevokokshaysky and various national museums, as well as participation in theatrical shows with folk songs and dances, tastings of Chuvash, Mari and Tatar cuisines, master classes on cooking traditional dishes.
The route is year-round: its duration is 3 days/2 nights in winter and 4 days/3 nights in summer. The schedule of arrivals for 2024 has been determined, the next rounds will start on August 30, September 13 and 27.
The route is implemented by tour operator companies of Tatarstan, Chuvashia and Mari El, for example, BPC-Tour Kazan, Nelson, Silk Road, the Agency for the Development of Tourism and the Hospitality Industry of the Chuvash Republic and others.
In 2023, the Expert Council under the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia awarded the Great Volga Way route the status of "national". The national route is of particular importance for the development of domestic and inbound tourism. Before approval, the route is evaluated by experts on a wide range of criteria, including the classification of accommodation facilities involved in the service, the availability of tourist navigation, transport safety, sanitary stops along the way and much more. Routes that have received the status of "national" meet the requirements of a modern tourist, they are safe and comfortable both in terms of logistics and in terms of price-quality ratio.
The Great Volga Way route is being implemented as an event of the national Tourism and Hospitality Industry project and is being developed within the framework of the interregional project of the same name, combining a series of routes across 14 subjects of the Volga Federal District.
