Tatarstan became the fourth in the rating of sustainable tourism development in Russia and took the second place in the Volga Federal District after Nizhny Novgorod region.

The Republic of Tatarstan has taken the fourth place in the all-Russian "Green Rating" of sustainable tourism development. The first place went to St. Petersburg, the second to Moscow, and the third was shared by the Kemerovo and Nizhny Novgorod regions. The rating was developed by the tourism platform "Let's go!" together with the consortium "Sustainable Tourism" and RUDN University.

The purpose of the study is to encourage regions to preserve their natural and cultural heritage, as well as to improve the social well-being of local residents through the development of tourism. The analysis was carried out according to 15 ESG criteria (ecology, social policy, government), grouped into four blocks: transformation of public administration, ecology, risk management and infrastructure.

Experts noted that the sustainability of tourism in Tatarstan is ensured by the balanced development of cultural, educational and natural resources, as well as the active involvement of business in the environmental and social agenda.

The best practices of the republic:

  • TASIGO hotels in Kazan are recognized as national leaders in the field of corporate social responsibility. Kazan Palace by TASIGO became the first hotel in Russia to receive a prestigious international certificate Green Globe.

  • The Tatarstan capital has established a system for disclosing information about a barrier-free environment. Lists of tourist sites and hotels in Kazan accessible to low-mobility groups of the population have been published in the public domain.
